Iaconelli Finishes 3rd in the Concluding Event of the 2008 BASS Season
Ike finished 3rd in the final BASS even to end 2008 on a high note. 2008 was a season of highs and lows. Ike kicked off 2008 with a 10th place at the Bassmaster Classic, and immediately fell off to 77th place at the following event at the Harris Chain of Lakes. He worked his way into the top half of the field at Kissimee, on to a final day 12 cut at the record-setting Falcon Lake, and nearly another final day appearance at Amistad. Through May and June, finishes slumped, with 4 straight events where his best finish was 38th (Clarks Hill, where he finished 5th in 2005, and 12th in 2006).
The finish of 2008 may be aptly compared to his 2005 Elite Series performance, where he made the final 12 in all 4 events, and went on to finish 5th at the light-weight 2005 Classic in Pittsburgh. For the sake of comparison, Ike was only competing with 50 other anglers in 2005, where in 2008, he was against a field double that size as he finished in the top 10 3 straight events, and improved his standing in each (9th at Old Hickory, 5th at Erie, and 3rd at Oneida).
Ike fished near the launch for the duration of the Oneida tournament. He caught the biggest bag of 20lbs. 1 oz., the biggest bag by nearly 2lbs., and did so on punching a Berkley Beast through vegetation with a 1oz. Tru-Tungsten weight.
