Wacky Rigging: New Kayak Motor & Big Spring Bass Bass Fishing Video

Guys... there’s just NOTHING like kayak fishing.
In this episode of Going Ike, I finally get a chance to hit the water after a busy stretch — and it lined up with the perfect spring day. We unbox and install the brand new Newport NK180 HD electric kayak motor on my Wilderness Systems Recon 120... aka my “Guardrail Hopper.”
This kayak is the opposite of my fully-loaded tournament setup.
No graphs.
No depth finder.
Just two rods, a simple setup, and some old-school spring bass fishing.
After installing and testing the new Newport motor, we hit the water and break down one of the BEST cold-front bass fishing techniques there is — the wacky rig.
In this video I talk about:
• Spring cold front bass fishing
• Pre-spawn, spawn, and post-spawn transitions
• Why bass relate to pads and isolated cover during cold fronts
• How I fish a weightless wacky-rigged Berkley PowerBait General
• Why finesse fishing shines in tough spring conditions
• Kayak fishing strategy and efficiency
The setup for the day:
• Wilderness Systems Recon 120
• Newport NK180 HD electric motor
• Berkley PowerBait General
• Weightless wacky rig setup
• Spinning rod and spinning reel with light line
The new Newport handled pads, grass, wood, and shallow cover AWESOME... and the wacky rig absolutely got bit.
Simple fishing.
Old-school fishing.
The kind of fishing that never gets old.
Hope you enjoy this one!
– Ike
