PICK the RIGHT SIZE! Suspending Jerkbait Guide (Ike in the Shop) Bass Fishing Video

Subscribe on YouTube

Folks at home, folks at home! In this episode of Ike in the Shop, I’m talking about one of my favorite cold-water fishing techniques—suspending jerkbaits. These baits work all year, but they really shine when the water is at its coldest—late fall, winter, and early pre-spawn when the water is beginning to warm.

But here’s the big question I get all the time: How do you pick the right size jerkbait?

I break it down into two key factors:

  • Forage Matching – I always start by looking at what the bass are eating. If I see threadfin shad, gizzard shad, alewives, or blueback herring, I match my bait size to that forage.
  • Diving Depth – It’s crucial to get your bait down to where the fish are actually feeding. I go over how different jerkbait sizes and bill lengths affect depth and action.
In this video, I show you some of my favorite jerkbaits, like the Berkley Stunna 100, plus smaller and larger options, so you can dial in the perfect size for your lake. I even share a few tricks on researching forage before you hit the water!
