Mike Iaconelli on 2010 Bassmaster Classic

I'm Mike Iaconelli, I want to talk to you about the Classic this year, the 2010 Bassmaster Classic on Lay Lake. Probably one of the toughest Classics I've ever fished. Really cold weather, winter-time conditions, muddy water and lethargic fish. I had a pretty good tournament, ended up 6th in that one.

Without a doubt, there was one bait that I caught about 80% of my fish on. It was an old school grub. I think a lot of people, over the years, forgot about the grub. With swimbaits and all these high technology baits, this little thing got forgotten about. This really helped me do good in the classic this year. It's a brand new grub from Berkley, it's called a ripple shad. They got it in two different sizes. I fished it in the small 3" size. Perfect imitator of the shad, especially in cold water. Little tiny shad tail that puts out this real nice tight vibration, and that's real key.

I basically got that grub. I took a regular dart head, a 3/16 or 1/4 oz. dart head and threaded that grub on there. Just real nice, with an exposed hook. If you look at that thing, perfect imitation of the little shad they were feeding on on Lay Lake.

I used 6 and 8 lb. test Berkley Trilene Fluorocarbon, the new Veritas Abu Garcia rod, and of course the 40 Soron reel by Abu Garcia. This was the perfect bait to help me catch those lethargic fish. 2010 Bassmaster Classic, 6th place, on the grub.
