I’ve been planning this trip for YEARS!! and finally it all came together!
Me and my camera guy — and saltwater kayak fishing MADMAN — Charles Breon loaded up and headed down to Virginia’s Eastern Shore chasing a dream: a giant red drum big enough to break the internet.

I was in my Wilderness Systems Recon 120 kayak, rigged with the new Newport NK180 Pro electric motor, ready for battle. The weather wasn’t doing us any favors — dropping pressure, howling wind, a storm creeping in fast — but I knew those were the conditions that make something special happen and the bite window would be TINY!!

We fished hard, grinding through a tough bite, and then it all went down.
That one cast. That one eat. That one fish.
When it hit, my kayak came alive — pulled me sideways, nearly flipped me, and started towing me like a sled. I’m yelling, Charles is filming, and I’m realizing this might be the biggest redfish I’ve ever caught in my life....a true Chesapeake sleigh ride.
