It Won The Classic… And You Can’t Even Buy It Yet Bass Fishing Video

You’re looking at the bait system that helped win the Bassmaster Classic, and the crazy part is most anglers still can’t even buy it yet.

In this episode of Ike in the Shop, I break down the brand new Berkley Lab Series baits and explain why these are different from traditional soft plastics and why you’re going to start seeing these baits everywhere once they hit stores.

The Lab Series platform was designed around triggering bass using the four key bite triggers:
Action, Color, Scent, and Taste.

What makes these baits unique is that Berkley combined multiple technologies into one bait system:
• MaxScent scent dispersion
• PowerBait taste formula
• Water-activated scent “slime” layer
• Small batch layered pouring process
• Internal air pocket for roll and balance
• Ultra soft material for natural action

When this bait hits the water, the outer layer activates and begins releasing scent immediately. As the bait is fished, the internal MaxScent layer continues dispersing scent while the PowerBait formula gives the bait taste that makes fish hold on longer. That combination is designed specifically for pressured fish that follow baits but don’t commit.

The Lab Series Minnow was actually used on a jighead minnow technique to help win the Bassmaster Classic before the bait was even released to the public. That tells you how effective this system is, and why these baits are probably going to be hard to find once they officially hit stores.

How I Would Fish These Baits
• Jighead minnow / mid-strolling
• Hover strolling
• Drop shot
• Neko rig
• Damiki rig
• Forward-facing sonar fishing
• Pressured lakes
• Clear water
• Cold water
• Suspended fish
• Follower fish that won’t commit

If you fish places where bass see a lot of lures, this is exactly the kind of bait you want to throw.

The Lab Series lineup includes:
• Lab Series Minnow
• Lab Series Finesse Worm
• Lab Series Flat Worm

And you can expect Berkley to expand this system into more bait shapes in the future.

I really believe this Lab Series platform is one of the more interesting new soft bait technologies to come out in a long time because it focuses on triggering fish instead of just imitating bait.
